Since Christopher Columbus put his foot on Mole Saint Nicolas' ground in 1492, the bay passed a lot of events.
Taïnos, buccaneers, colonial battles, sea port and forts marked culture and local landscapes. More than 20 historical monuments are known in Mole, including 7 forts.
The ISPAN (National Inheritance Conservation Institute) works in conjunction with the local authorities to manage the historical inheritance of Mole Saint Nicolas. It is a part of the Culture Ministry. This institute published a bulletin about the historical monuments of Mole Saint Nicolas.
